Shlama,

If I may inquire: why the oficial name of the Church of the East is Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East, if it have developed under the Persian Empire?

Shlama Akhi Pilipos,

The Church of the East has had many different names applied to her or employed by herself such as the Persian Church and even "Nestorian" (I believe Mar Odisho used this term often in reference to the CoE). Some have claimed that the name "Assyrian" was used in general to cover the various "Nestorian" communities after the Western Christian missionaries came in. I know many who prefer to refer to it as the "Persian Church."

I'm not really sure when the Church took the official name "Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East." That is something that Shamasha Paul Younan would probably know.

Push b'shlama
